MY LITTLE BIT OF GOOD IN THE WORLD
Following travels around Africa I founded the charity Africa Childrens Development Trust (Reg 1125815) in 2007. Primarily focused in Uganda, the ACDT has worked on a number of projects encompassing health, education and microfinancing. We support a primary school in the urban slum area of Ndeeba and have distributed thousands of mosquito nets across Uganda. We have worked in the area or HIV/AIDS and supported orphananages, plus many more projects. Whilst I know that the developing world has far bigger issues than I can conquer alone, it is still way behind that of the UK and innocent people are affected. I think in life it is important to give back, whether that is to your local community or to the wider world, that is your free choice, but as the quote by Tony Robbins says ‘ living is giving’ and its important to me to give my time to help those that live in conditions I find humanely unacceptable and to make a contribution to making someones life just that little bit better! My current project with the ACDT is Chrysalis Uganda a micro financing project that provides interest free business loans to women living in Ndeeba, business training and ongoing support to help them create businesses that will enable them to begin the process of working their way out of poverty and hopefully break the cycle of poverty for the next generation. It was launched in October 2014 and to date we have provided 138 small business loans to women living in the slums of Ndeeba, giving them a chance where no others will. As the proverb says ‘give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for life’
I also lived in Uganda for a few years and worked both in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in a humanitarian and business capacity. My charity work is very important to me and I hope to be able to continue this work for the rest of my life.
I travel to Uganda around 3 times a year to be on the ground with The Chrysalis Uganda Project. I also take my children when I am able to, as I believe it is so important for our children to truly realise how lucky they are, and to enable them to grow into even more amazing human beings.
